2007 - 2008

Happy wrestling season to you all! There is a lot of basic information you need to know.
Please read carefully and retain this paper for future reference.

1. Fees - The fee to join the Club is $100 for the first child and $75 for each child after that. This
fee helps cover the cost of mandatory insurance required by USA Wrestling and a team t-shirt.

2. The Singlet - The single is the property of the Club and is loaned to the wrestler during the wrestling
season. (Washing instructions are provided). If the singlet is promptly returned after the wrestler’s FINAL tournament, and in good shape, no charge will be incurred by the parent(s). But if the singlet is returned in
poor condition (ie: lots of snags, holes, rips or stains), the parents will be obligated to replace the singlet
which costs $50.

3. Practices - Practices are held every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. In the Rock
Bridge Wrestling Room. Wrestlers should wear a t-shirt and comfortable, loose-fitting shorts free of
zippers, buttons or snaps, and wrestling shoes to practice in.

4. Weight - The Club does NOT encourage weight loss for the wrestlers. A wrestler is not bound to a
certain weight for the entire season. The weight classes are generally in 5 pound increments and you
can change as needed. BUT, the weight you sign up for, for a particular tournament, is typically binding.
If your child does not make that weight, he will not wrestle. Give yourself some leeway. If you have
any questions, please ask.

5. Equipment - Wrestling shoes are required. These shoes must be worn only in the wrestling room
and at tournaments! You may purchase these new or used. (ie: Red Weir, MC Sports)  Sometimes
parents will sell the previous year’s equipment for a discounted price. Headgear is required. Athletic
bags to carry gear to practices and tournaments are recommended. Items such as Tape for laces,
Band-Aids, ice packs, Tylenol and ace wraps are recommended.

6. Tournaments - We encourage you to have your child participate tournaments. This is the best
experience for the wrestler. The fees vary from $10-15. However, no wrestler is obligated to enter
any tournaments. (Tournaments are typically on Saturdays.) New wrestlers must complete four
club practices in order to be eligible to compete.
      A.  PINS - If your child “pins” his/her opponent during a match, (s)he will receive a
Gold Pin with a green ribbon on it. (The wrestler should find Laura Lewis and tell
            her that a pin was achieved.) This is to be placed on the wrestler’s club t-shirt;
NOT on the singlet! (It can make a hole in the singlet. Refer back to #2.)

7. E-Mail - In an attempt to save time and money for copies, I would like to have everyone’s
e-mail to send the weekly newsletters.  For those who do not have e-mail, I will give your child
a copy at practice in a timely fashion. We encourage all parents to be informed and to participate
in this great sport. This will also please your wrestler more than you know.

8. Practices/Snow Days - Please check your e-mail that day or call Coach Hina (# above).
Typically, if school is canceled due to snow, then we are canceled, BUT NOT ALWAYS!

9. Birth Certificate - Effective Oct. 2006, every wrestler must submit a copy of his/her birth
certificate in order to receive a competitor's care. This copy will be sent to MO USA Wrestling
home office and be kept on file there. This is a one-time submission.

10. Match/Record Keeping - The parents will be given a sheet to keep track of their child’s wins
and losses. This includes getting the opponent’s name and club affiliation, and actual score. This
record will be very useful to the coaches when Districts arrive. This record will enable the coach
to seed (place) your wrestler at the best possible position. Without this record, you cannot be
guaranteed your child is seeded at the best possible position. If you do not care how your child is
seeded at Districts, then a form is not necessary to maintain. If it is important to you how your
child is seeded, then please use the form provided. (click here for form)

11. Brackets - At the tournaments, your child will be placed in a bracket. This could be an 8-man,
or 2-4 man round robin format. If you are unfamiliar with these, please see Laura Lewis at practice
before your wrestler’s first tournament. You may obtain a blank copy of the 4, 8 or 16 man bracket
from our web site.

12. Goals - Our goals are to teach the fundamentals of wrestling, good sportsmanship, team
spirit/friendship and to have fun. We want this experience to be a pleasant one for your child and
you, the parents, too!! Please come and join in the fun!

13. Awards Banquet - There will be an awards banquet at the end of the season. Each wrestler
will receive at least one award. This is a fun, final hurrah! Please plan to attend.
